I think I remember the drummer Chris Coleman being talked about briefly on this forum, but I thought I'd bring it up again, see if anyone knew anything about what he's doing. This last summer I bought the Israel and New Breed (Live from Another Level) CD set and was very impressed with the drummer. I just recenly bought the DVD and was again impressed. I heard Marvin McQuitty was no longer drumming for Fred Hammond and was now drumming for Israel. Does anyone know what Chris is doing now? Any online clips of him playing? Any other DVD's/CD's I should check out? If anyone is interested in gospel music, or just good music for that matter, check out this DVD or CD, the music is great and the drumming is incredible!

Man, i had to learn some of those tunes off that live CD for a gospel gig i did... wow, that cat is tight!
If he ain't doin it now, he's gonna be playin' with some very big R&B acts, as soon as whenever he wants... his style of drumming is the 'hip' thing for those gigs, and he as all the tricks for it... damn that guy is tight

Chris is teaching (name of school escapes me) as Professor in Texas. Houston I believe. He is also the drummer for Creflo Dollars church and will be going out on the road this summer with Creflos' ministry. I can't remeber who else he is playing with, when I do I will post it. Yes he is really a killing drummer and he is a really great guy to talk with as well. He is so humble about his abilities and is not bashful to say that his is a gift from the Lord. Marvin McQuitty is another monster drummer from the gospel industry. Actually, there are so many really great players that come out of the church that it is really amazing. PT.

Hey everyone,
I don't post here often, but I figured I would talk a little about Chris since I had him for two classes. He is actually teaching at AIM www.aim-music.com in Atlanta right now, where I go to school and he is definatley a monster player. Very personable and funny just someone that I would want to hang out with after class. PT, maybe there is another Chris Coleman you are thinking about in Texas.
We watched some of that DVD in class one day and there is one part where he reaches down and plays the bass drum with a stick and his right foot doing doubles and triplets and a few other things. Anyway, its pretty cool and even more impressive in person.

There really are a lot of great musicians who come out of the church as Pocketime has stated. Unfortunately I didn't grow up in a church that played this kind of music, gospel that is. I was just exposed to it a few years ago. I actually attended a great gospel church in Nashville for a few months. The worship was absolutely incredible!
I'm going to try naming the gospel drummers that I know of other than Chris Coleman and Marvin McQuitty. I don't know a lot, so please add more.
Calvin Rogers, Ladell Abrams, Doobie Powell, Gerald Heyward and Teddy Campbell (I know they're R&B drummers, but I think they came out of the church as well.) I told you my list was short. Someone enlighten me on some others...

I guess nobody's heard of Robert "Sputt" Searight. He doesn't get enough credit, despite the fact he's the baddest out there.
